Disclaimer: No way no how is this a pretty food blog. My kitchen is messy and I don't own adorable, oh-so-photographable dishes. Deal.
There's no getting around it: breakfast is a big part of my life.
So it may end being a big part of this blog, too.
2 C. unbleached white whole wheat flour
1 T. baking powder
1 T. sugar
1 t. salt
1/2 t. baking soda
4 T. unsalted butter cut into chunks
1 C. buttermilk (or regular milk and lemon juice)
Additional flour
A few T. melted butter
Preheat oven to 500. Grease 9 inch pan.
Make buttermilk! It's easy - 1 cup of milk to 1 T. of lemon juice. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Mix dry ingredients. With a fork (or hands) cut in butter chunks.
Fold in buttermilk and mix until just blended.
Scoop dough into balls and roll them in flour. Place in pan. Coat tops of biscuits with melted butter. Bake 5 minutes and then lower the temp to 450 and bake for 15 more minutes.
Meanwhile get started on that gravy!
Brown some sausage. I like using ground turkey as a healthier substitute. Leave the grease in the pan and, on medium heat, add 4 T. flour and whisk until golden brown. (Add more butter if needed). Gradually add 3 C. milk, whisk out lumps, and return meat.
I then season my gravy with lemon pepper, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, salt, and black pepper.
It's not normal my love for this meal.
Wow,,the cake so yummy
